Today:

Dry with bright or sunny spells after any early cloud burns away. After a chilly start with a rural frost in places, it will feel milder than recent days. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

It will stay dry through the evening and overnight with some clear spells in the east, but becoming cloudier over Central through the early hours. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Tuesday:

Staying dry with some early bright or sunny spells in the east, but cloud over Central will gradually spread east through the day. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Rain spreads north on Wednesday. This clears on Thursday leaving a dry and bright afternoon. Quite breezy as another band of rain crosses east through Friday.

The unsettled spell of weather, which is expected to develop during this coming week, will continue into next weekend and beyond. All regions are likely to have some rain at times, which could be heavy. However, most of the rain, showers and strong winds are likely to be in the northwest with southeastern areas more often dry and bright. Temperatures will be above average and probably feeling warm in the brighter spells in southern areas. Later in October, there is a chance of more settled conditions developing, particularly in southern and eastern areas but with temperatures falling closer to average and some overnight frost and fog. Given the time of year, fog could be slow to clear.

Potentially some wet and windy weather at first, especially in the northwest, but a trend towards more settled conditions is most favoured for late October as high pressure becomes increasingly dominant. This would bring the potential for frost and fog at night, and possibly large variations between daytime and overnight temperatures. Into early November, high pressure may become more centred to the northwest of the UK, resulting in a gradual trend towards more unsettled conditions, particularly across southern regions.
