Dr Anna Maidens
Anna works on analysing and calibrating the output from the dynamical forecasting model for seasonal timescales.
Areas of expertise
-
Statistical post-processing of model output
-
Verification of probabilistic forecast
-
Analysis of model drifts
-
Assessing model performance for the East Asian Summer Monsoon
Current activities
Anna's work includes looking at different ways of combining hindcasts and performing a bias correction (relative to model climatology) to try to improve the skill of seasonal forecasts.
She is also interested in initial model drifts and the causes of these, and how well the model captures teleconnections, including those for the East Asian Summer Monsoon area.
Career background
Anna joined the Met Office Hadley Centre in 2002. She initially worked in defence research and development. She spent 3 years working in convection research as part of the Atmospheric Processes and Parametrization group before moving to the Seasonal Forecasting group in 2007. She did her PhD in theoretical polymer physics at the University of Leeds.
