  • Atmospheric dispersion modelling
  • Lagrangian turbulence: dispersion of pairs and groups of Lagrangian particles
  • Buoyant plumes including volcanic plumes
  • Large-eddy simulation

My Publications - Devenish, B

Current activities

  • Development of a hybrid Lagrangian-Eulerian dispersion model (as part of Met Office Dispersion Model)
  • Development of Lagrangian stochastic models for the dispersion of two, three and four correlated particles in homogeneous isotropic turbulence
  • Development of volcanic plume models and simple models of gravity currents
  • Large-eddy simulation of buoyant plumes.

Career background

Benjamin has worked in the Atmospheric Dispersion Group since 2009 as well as from 1999 to 2003. In between, he worked in the Boundary-layer group (2006-2009), Data Assimilation (2005-2006) and as an EU Marie Curie research fellow at the University of Rome 'Tor Vergata' from 2003 to 2005.

Prior to joining Met Office, Benjamin worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Newcastle. He graduated from Bristol University with B.Sc. in mathematics and from Manchester University with Ph.D. in applied mathematics.
