Current activities 

Kolusu works in the Verification, Impacts and Post-Processing team. He experts in weather and climate impact modelling, numerical weather prediction, and post-processing data from numerical models covering a range of forecast lead times. Currently he is working in the WCSSP-India project. Here, he aims to develop verification metrics across the time scales of S2S over India. He is also developing impact assessment and comparison of methods (e.g. how we describe and calculate impact) for a range of high-impact events and tropical cyclone flood-related events in India. This is to support district-level impact-based forecasting in India.

Career background 

Dr. Kolusu obtained his PhD in Natural Science from the University of Hamburg, Germany in 2013 and has subsequently published several peer-reviewed papers in the aspects of Climate modelling and climate impacts over Africa and Indian monsoon prediction and measurements and modelling of greenhouse gases. Kolusu has also obtained M.Sc (Meteorology) and M.Tech (Atmospheric Science) from the one of the oldest departments of Meteorology and Oceanography, Andhra University, in India.  Having completed M.Tech, he became a senior research fellow at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and provided block level numerical weather forecasts by using the WRF model for Tamil Nadu state in India. In 2013 after completion of a PhD he moved to the United Kingdom, where he initially worked at the University of Leeds and Sussex on different projects. During this time, his main research interests covered climate variability, climate change and drought impact modelling over Africa. He also quantified aerosol impacts on weather and climate over South America.
