Current activities
Tim manages the Global Coupled Model Processes and Development team. The team is responsible for developing the Met Office global coupled model configurations consisting of the Unified Model coupled to the NEMO ocean model and the CICE sea-ice model. The coupled model is used across time scales from months to centuries ahead. The team is also evaluating the value of coupled ocean-atmosphere modelling for weather forecasting time scales.
Career background
Tim completed a BSc in Meteorology and Oceanography in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia from September 2000 to July 2004. As part of this course he spent his third year at the University of Aix-Marseille II studying oceanography. This also included a two month internship at an oceanography research laboratory in La Seyne sur Mer where he carried out an initial analysis of data from current meter moorings in the Tyrrhenian Sea region of the Mediterranean Sea.
After completing his undergraduate degree Tim moved to the School of Mathematics at the University of East Anglia where he did a PhD looking at the impact of vertical ocean mixing in a global coupled climate model.
Tim joined the Hadley Centre in 2008 to work on ocean model evaluation and development. In 2014 he became a member of the NEMO systems team and developer's committee contributing to the collaborative development of the NEMO ocean model. He started his current role in 2018.
