International humanitarian support

We work with humanitarian agencies around the globe to support them in delivering vital life saving services.

In 2016 we worked with Save the Children to support the safe movement of their ship in the Mediterranean during the migrant search and rescue mission. We have also provided support to the World Food Programme with their work in Syria, and during the winter of 2015/16 we worked in partnership with other meteorological services to support the UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) in their operations during the South Eastern European refugee crisis.

During international crisis we also work closely with the UK government, providing weather and climate advice to support humanitarian response efforts. The 2017 hurricane season started with four major storms - Harvey, Irma, Jose and Maria – and our expertise was critical in supporting the UK government in their response.

We bring together both science and operations, including utilising new and innovative modelling techniques, to ensure we provide the best advice possible. These examples demonstrate what can be achieved when our science, business and operational teams work in partnership with humanitarian agencies and the UK government.
