Training
The Met Office provides a range of weather and climate related training which aims to help those impacted by the weather to carry out their roles safely and effectively.
We provide a variety of training from courses for those involved in the aviation industry to bitesize basic meteorology learning videos available for all to access via our YouTube channel.
Aviation training
We are authorised by the Civil Aviation Authority to train all airfield observers.
Met Office aviation training meets International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements. Courses are focused and intense, so staff are not removed from their operational duties for longer than necessary.

Online training for winter road services
Online training courses specifically designed for road maintenance decision makers and gritting operators to introduce weather principles and their impacts on road surfaces, and to learn about our OpenSite™ service to maximise operations and knowledge around site-specific gritting
Climate training
Courses such as the 'Assessing your climate risk training course' will introduce you to the latest climate projections and help you gain the skills you need to identify, access, interpret and communicate climate data to meet your organisational needs.
Civil Contingencies Training*
We provide a range of training to the Emergency Responder community including courses on Seasonal Weather Hazards and Climate Change. If you are interested in finding out more about this training then please contact [email protected].
