Current activities
Chris is a member of the Understanding Regional Climate Change (URCC) team. His main responsibility is to set-up, run and exploit convection-permitting ensemble simulations of future climate change for the UK, as part of the UKCP project. He is particularly interested in understanding the benefits of high-resolution for the representation of climate variability and extremes.
Chris also works to improve the regional climate model for future iterations of UKCP. He contributes to the testing and development of Regional Atmosphere and Land (RAL) science configurations of the Met Office Unified Model (standard model configurations for use in kilometre-scale regional models), collaborating closely with colleagues in the Regional Model Evaluation and Development (RMED) area.
Career background
Chris joined the Met Office in 2013, spending seven years in the RMED area before moving into the URCC team in April 2020. Prior to this he completed a PhD in Cosmology at the University of Nottingham, then worked as a post-doctorate researcher in Computational Astrophysics at the University of Sussex.
