Probability forecasts for offshore operations

Our upgraded ensemble based probability forecast graphically displays global wind and wave information.

February 2020 enhancements

  • Resolution of data increased from 1.5 degrees to 0.25 degrees
  • Direction box plots replaced with radial plots
  • Presentation quality improved

Key parameters

  • Wind speed (in knots)
  • Wind direction (in degrees)
  • Significant wave height (in metres)
  • Mean wave direction (in degrees)
  • Mean wave period (in seconds)

Available once or twice daily.

How can this information be used?

Probability forecasts present an enhanced outlook to maximise effectiveness in strategic planning.  Through enabling the identification of potential weather windows, they can be a powerful decision making aid to reduce operational downtime and costs.

Considerable value can be added by using in conjunction with the 5 day Tabular and Graphical (deterministic) forecast.

Traditional deterministic forecasts do not capture the range of possible scenarios. Probability forecasts measure and show the range of uncertainty, effectively supplying the 'missing' information to help determine and reinforce critical business decisions.

Key benefits

  • Provide strategic, medium range global weather intelligence for better decision making.
  • Identify potential weather opportunities to reduce downtime and costs.
  • Add value to traditional deterministic forecasts.
